Blender Tutorial: How to Color Objects in Blender

May 21, 2024

If you're new to 3D modeling or have been using Blender for a while, you may be wondering how to color objects in Blender. Adding color to your 3D models can bring them to life and make them more visually appealing. In this tutorial, we'll walk you through the process of coloring objects in Blender, from selecting objects to applying materials and textures.

Step 1: Select the Object

To start, open your Blender project and select the object you want to color. You can do this by right-clicking on the object in the 3D view. Once the object is selected, you'll see a yellow outline around it.

Step 2: Add a New Material

With the object selected, navigate to the Material Properties tab in the Properties Editor. Click on the 'New' button to add a new material to the object. This will create a default material that you can customize with your desired color.

Step 3: Customize the Material

Now that you have added a new material, you can customize its properties to change the color of the object. In the same Material Properties tab, you can adjust the Base Color property to choose the color you want for the object. You can also adjust other properties like Metallic, Roughness, and Emission to further enhance the appearance of the material.

Step 4: Add Textures (Optional)

If you want to add textures to the object to give it a more realistic look, you can do so by adding an image texture to the material. In the same Material Properties tab, click on the 'Add Texture' button and select 'Image Texture.' Then, you can open an image file from your computer and adjust its mapping properties to fit the object.

Step 5: Render the Object

Once you have customized the material and added textures, you can preview the colored object by rendering it. Simply switch to the Render tab in the Properties Editor and click on the 'Render' button to see how the object looks with the applied color and textures.

With these simple steps, you can easily color objects in Blender and bring your 3D models to life. Whether you're creating characters, environments, or products, adding color to your objects can make a big difference in their visual impact. Experiment with different colors, textures, and material properties to achieve the desired look for your 3D models.
