How to Add Texture to OBJ in Blender

Oct 05, 2024

Hey Blender enthusiasts! In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to add texture to your OBJ files in Blender to take your 3D models to the next level. Adding texture can greatly enhance the visual appeal of your models, so let's get started!

Step 1: Import your OBJ file into Blender. Make sure you have your model ready and imported into Blender before you start adding texture.

Step 2: Open the 'Shading' workspace. This is where we'll be working with materials and textures for our model.

Step 3: Create a new material. In the 'Material Properties' tab, click on 'New' to create a new material for your model.

Step 4: Add a texture to the material. Under the 'Base Color' section, click on the small circle icon next to the color swatch. Then select 'Image Texture' from the drop-down menu.

Step 5: Open your texture file. Click on 'Open' and select the texture file you want to apply to your model. This could be a wood grain, stone texture, or any other image that you want to use to add detail to your model.

Step 6: Connect the texture to the material. Drag the yellow color output of the 'Image Texture' node to the yellow color input of the 'Principled BSDF' node.

Step 7: Adjust the mapping of the texture. If your texture doesn't look quite right on your model, you can adjust the mapping by adding a 'Mapping' node and connecting it between the 'Texture Coordinate' and 'Image Texture' nodes. This will allow you to scale, rotate, and position the texture to better fit your model.

Step 8: Fine-tune the material settings. You can further enhance the appearance of your texture by adjusting the material settings such as roughness, metallic, and normal mapping to add depth to the texture.

Step 9: Save your work. Once you're happy with the texture applied to your model, don't forget to save your work!

And there you have it! Adding texture to your OBJ files in Blender is a great way to enhance the visual appeal of your 3D models. I hope you found this tutorial helpful. Happy modeling!
