How to Load an OBJ from Dropbox to PAC3

Oct 17, 2024

Are you an avid Garry's Mod player who loves to create custom character animations using PAC3? Do you want to import an OBJ file from your Dropbox to enhance your character's look and movement? Look no further! Here's a step-by-step guide to help you load an OBJ file from Dropbox to PAC3 with ease.

Step 1: Upload the OBJ File to Dropbox

First, if you haven't already, upload the OBJ file you want to use to your Dropbox account. Make sure the file is stored in a folder that you can easily access and share.

Step 2: Generate a Shareable Link

Once the file is uploaded, right-click on it and select 'Share.' Then, click on 'Create a link' to generate a shareable link for the OBJ file.

Step 3: Convert the Dropbox Link to a Direct Download Link

By default, the link generated by Dropbox will lead to a preview page. To convert it into a direct download link, replace the 'www' part of the URL with 'dl' in the address bar and press Enter. This will automatically trigger the download of the OBJ file when the link is clicked.

Step 4: Create a PAC3 Group in Garry's Mod

Open Garry's Mod and navigate to the PAC3 editor. Create a new group or edit an existing one where you want to use the OBJ file.

Step 5: Load the OBJ File

Within the PAC3 editor, navigate to the 'Files' tab and click on 'Add.' Paste the direct download link of the OBJ file into the URL field and give it a name for easy reference.

Step 6: Apply the OBJ File to Your Character

Once the OBJ file is successfully loaded, go back to the PAC3 editor's main tab and locate the 'Procedural Bones' section. Add a new part and select 'model' as the type. Then, in the 'File' field, choose the OBJ file you just added from Dropbox.

Step 7: Finalize and Test

Make any necessary adjustments to the positioning and scaling of the OBJ file on your character. Once satisfied, apply the changes and test your character in-game to see the imported OBJ file in action.

That's it! You've successfully loaded an OBJ file from your Dropbox to PAC3 for character animation in Garry's Mod. Now you can take your character customization to the next level with custom 3D models from your Dropbox account. Happy animating!
