How to Import OBJ into After Effects Element 3D

Oct 20, 2024

Are you looking to spice up your After Effects animations with 3D objects? Element 3D is a powerful plugin that allows you to create stunning 3D visuals directly within After Effects. One of the great features of Element 3D is the ability to import OBJ files, which are 3D model files. Here's how you can easily import OBJ into After Effects Element 3D.

First, make sure you have Element 3D installed in your After Effects. You can purchase and download it from the official Video Copilot website. Once installed, open After Effects and create a new composition.

Next, create a new solid layer in your composition. This will serve as the base for your 3D object. With the solid layer selected, go to the Effects & Presets panel and search for 'Element.' Drag and drop Element 3D onto the solid layer.

Now, in the Effects Controls panel, click on 'Scene Setup' to open the Element 3D interface. In the interface, click on the 'Import' button at the top. This will open a file browser window.

Navigate to the location of your OBJ file and select it. After Effects Element 3D will then import the OBJ file, and you will see the 3D object appear in the interface. You can now adjust the position, rotation, and scale of the 3D object to fit your scene.

Finally, go back to the After Effects composition, and you will see your imported OBJ file as a 3D object within the scene. You can now animate it, add materials, and integrate it seamlessly into your 2D or 3D animations.

Importing OBJ files into After Effects Element 3D is a straightforward process that opens up a world of possibilities for your animations. Whether you're creating motion graphics, visual effects, or 3D titles, Element 3D makes it easy to bring 3D objects into your After Effects projects.

So, if you've been wanting to incorporate 3D elements into your After Effects creations, give Element 3D a try and start importing OBJ files to take your animations to the next level!
